If we really understood the effect that prayer has on the world and our lives, the Church would become a place of continual prayer. We would pray without ceasing. Believers would start their days with effectual prayer, and every Christian family would have a well-worn family altar. If we really understood the power of prayer, it would change the way we pray.
I hope that reading this book will spur you on to greater prayer. I hope these few pages shine a light on how prayer works and how much prayer affects the outcome of our lives and ministries. I hope you learn how to effectively participate in it.
I wrote this book not because wonderful books on prayer don’t already exist—they do, and many have helped me in my journey of prayer. But this book is different. I have discovered a viewpoint for prayer that I have not found written in any of the classic works on prayer. I strongly believe that what you are about to read comes from Scripture, and it has been personally useful in keeping me motivated and engaged in effectual prayer. My hope is that this book will do the same for you.
I have prayed not only that I would do the subject justice but that the Holy Spirit would use these written words to help you become wonderfully powerful in prayer. I pray that God would make you one of the greatest threats to the devil the world has ever seen! Remember, whoever controls the altar controls the outcome.
